On this day: Georgianna goes to Rio

13th February 1927. Georgianna Haggard departed from Southampton to Rio de Janeiro via the Royal Mail Steam Packet Co. She was originally from Quebec. She had previously visited Brazil with her husband, the diplomat Sir Godfrey Digby Napier Haggard (Digby for short) where he was appointed Consul General.

The Haggards were a high profile family and so there is further information about them online. Georgianna was born in 1885, her maiden name was Ruel and she married Digby in Guatemala in 1910. She would have travelled frequently in her role as diplomat’s wife. They had four children. After his retirement, the couple lived in Essex.
