Review of ‘Last Outlaw’ by Lee Hall

An enjoyable, fast-paced western horror, this book is well worth a read, even if it’s not your usual genre. It begins as a western, with a group of outlaws planning to rob a bank in a small town. There’s something strange about the town which makes them uneasy, but other than the narrator John Arthur having a premonition, things seem as you might expect. Around halfway through, it blends into a horror story about a demonic force. Suspense, action and snappy dialogue are the highlights of this short novel. There was some back story to John Arthur and his adopted daughter, Beth, which was just enough to make you invested in their characters. I would have liked more details about their history and an explanation of where and when the story takes place, other than somewhere in America. I’d recommend this book and I think it would make a good film!

Independently published in 2024.
