An ‘eco-romance comedy’ set on a community allotment in Camden, London. I wouldn’t usually read a romance but the fruit and veg growing theme was appealing, so when the book appeared in my Kindle Unlimited recommendations, I gave it a go. It had only 2 reviews on Goodreads – one from someone with the same name as the author, and one from the publisher. I hope they get some more readers though because it’s an enjoyable, if quite silly, light read. It could do with a little more editing and proofreading, however, because there are numerous typos and repeated phrases. Why does everyone ‘pop’ things into each other’s mouths so often?!

The book is told in a diary format by ex-fashion designer Deborah, who is roped into helping with an allotment project and meets some weird and wonderful characters. Although she is married, she fancies the council representative Toby, who is always flirting but is in a relationship. As far as the romance element goes, there is not a great deal of it, and nothing explicit, but the many saucy puns, usually gardening themed, are fun. I would describe the novel as part allotment gardening manual, part recipe book and part rom com! There are numerous illustrations which show the fashionista character, as leggy as a bean plant, in various gardening outfits.
