Why I don’t review every book I read

When I first started blogging, I reviewed everything. I wanted to put lots of content on to my blog so that other bibliophiles would find it and publishers would know I was a proper reviewer. These days, most of the books I read are still reviewed on the blog. A small number get reviewed on NetGalley or Goodreads instead of the blog, if I haven’t got enough to say about the book. I can enjoy a book but not have enough opinions to craft a review that followers of my blog deserve. I don’t review some of the books I read at all. There are a few reasons for this. One is that the book is emotionally hard-hitting and I feel that my words can’t do justice to what the author has experienced (if it’s non-fiction) or put their characters through. Another reason is that I didn’t finish the book; I have a high rate of DNFs and I think it’s unfair to review a book I did not read to the end. A further reason, and probably the most usual, is re-reads. I tend to read my favourites, or books I’ve only read once but have kept because I’d like to re-read them, every few years. I’m now getting to the stage of re-reading books I’ve already reviewed on the blog. I suppose I could present my original review with some additional comments, but that doesn’t appeal to me unless my opinion of the book is radically different this time around. What I’m trying to say with this blog post is that the book reviews on here aren’t a complete record of my reading but that I review most books I read.
