Here’s a strange fact. 5 of my 10 most popular book reviews (and by that I mean most-viewed) are of books I didn’t like much, or at all. This list is from most, to least viewed of the top 10, from the very beginning of my blog until the present.
The Doll Factory by Elizabeth Macneal. This is my number 1 most viewed. I found the book “disappointing and unpleasant.”
Inheritance by Jenny Eclair. “My favourite of the three Eclairs I’ve read.”
That Glimpse of Truth chosen by David Miller. “If these are some of the finest short stories ever written, I’ll eat my hat. And my gloves, coat and scarf.”
The Idea of You by Robinne Lee. I found this book “pretty saucy but also kind of icky.”
My Lover’s Lover by Maggie O’Farrell. The author is “skilled at finding new and thought-provoking ways of describing ordinary things.”
Cher: The Memoir Part One. “A very bold and brave memoir with its share of humour as well as trauma.”
The Starlight Crystal by Christopher Pike. “A compelling reading experience for me.”
The Measure by Nikki Erlick. “The plot just unravelled, like a fraying piece of string.”
The Rainbow Goblins by Ul de Rico. “A fabulously psychedelic creepy picture book.”
Girl A by Abigail Dean. I considered this book “memorable and skilfully written but I didn’t enjoy it”.
