No Buttons On My Cardigan – a poem

Can somebody listen, please?
My cardi’s flapping in the breeze.
The fabric’s cosy, the length is long,
But without buttons it just feels wrong.
Maybe it saves manufacturers money,
Yet a chilly bosom is not funny.
Long cardis with buttons are rare, I fear.
In vain, I look for them every year.
Clothes designers, don’t be tardy –
Put some buttons on my cardi!

It may have taken me all of 15 minutes to write the poem and do a biro sketch, but seriously, why do so many cardigans not have buttons? If I had a time machine, I’d go back 10 years and buy a lifetime’s supply of long, cosy cardigans with chunky buttons. Of course I would also do other stuff such as seeing the dinosaurs, experiencing Shakespeare’s plays first-hand, the evolution of humanity into higher beings, etc.

    1. I admit that jumpers are a good alternative, however I get hot and cold easily and jumpers are not so pleasant to take on and off throughout the day!

  1. Oh how I agree with you. I love cardi’s and I used to have several that had buttons or belts. Even three buttons keeps them under control in a breeze! I do love this poem, it makes so much sense to me xx

    1. Glad you agree! I did manage to buy a new cardigan which was long with buttons, it was quite expensive though.

  2. Oh, this was such a wonderful start to my morning. Such fun and very true! The cozier the cardigan, the less likely it will have buttons and I have no idea why that is. Have a great day and stay warm 🤗

    1. Ha ha, glad you found it amusing and relevant! I think it’s manufacturers’ money-saving disguised as fashion. Thanks, I did stay warm, same to you! 🙂

  3. 15 minutes but still a great poem and sketch! 😀 I haven’t had a proper cardigan since the mid 2000s, lol. I absolutely hate them without buttons though, much prefer just jumpers these days which I take on and off depending on the weather. I tend to wear a different amount of layers depending on the temperature, it doesn’t seem to bother me these days that I’ve swapped more to jumpers than cardigans (I was the total opposite at school though). 🙂

    1. Thanks! 😀 One of the little things that annoys me, most cardigans don’t have buttons. I’m not so keen on jumpers as it’s not always practical to wear a t-shirt under.

      1. Good point. I didn’t realise there were so many cardigans without buttons having not worn them for so long. I definitely agree though, I sometimes get too hot with a jumper on and then too cold with it off, lol!🤦‍♀️ And the ydon’t always go with everything. This conversation and post has made me want to buy a cardigan again now, lol!
