Review of ‘Our Haunted Home in the Country’ by Dale Scott

A true story by a man whose family lived in a haunted house, in the Californian countryside, for thirteen years. It’s a compelling, short read which had me hooked as it slowly built up atmosphere and made me wonder what was coming next. I liked how the story was not sensationalised, which made it more believable. The family, consisting of mother, father and two teenagers, were always hearing creaks and pops in the house, which they thought were due to its age. But then the sounds increased to footsteps, voices, doors slamming, thuds and even phantom cars. The lights were going on and off, there were cold patches of air and the piano being played by invisible fingers. All surrounded by quiet fields and a garden which eventually yielded a sinister surprise. I still don’t understand why they stayed in the house for so long. There were no takers until they sold the land for development, but if it were me, I would have been out of there fast. This was an incredibly spooky, well-written account which I enjoyed reading.
