Review of ‘The Answer is No’ by Fredrik Backman

A fantastic quirky short story which I enjoyed very much. It’s funny, absurd and wise.

Book cover shows paper takeout bag on a doormat.

Lucas is a happy man because his voluntary isolation means that he has as little contact with people as possible. I think some of us can relate! Anyway, his solitary, pleasant existence is disrupted. Someone has discarded a frying pan outside his apartment block and the committee are determined to find out who did it. Lucas is forced to talk to people, including a woman who steals his wi-fi and another who is having a retreat while her family think she’s in a coma. Things get increasingly odd when Lucas unwittingly starts a cult.

I liked the confidence of the storytelling. Even from the first page I knew I was going to enjoy the story. Recommended if you want a short read which will brighten your day.
